Pick up the tooth by the crown, not the root, and gently rinse it with water without scrubbing. If you can, place it back in the socket and hold it in place by biting gently on gauze. If that’s not possible, store the tooth in milk or inside your cheek. Call our office right away, because getting care within 30 to 60 minutes offers the best chance of saving the tooth.
Rinse your mouth with warm water, gently floss to remove any trapped food, and take an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed on the label. A cold compress on the outside of your cheek can help reduce swelling. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gums, since it can burn the tissue. Call our Atlanta office as soon as possible, because tooth pain often signals a problem that needs treatment.
Rinse your mouth with warm water and save any broken pieces of the tooth. Apply gauze to stop any bleeding and use a cold compress to reduce swelling. Avoid chewing on the damaged tooth and call our office. Depending on the damage, we may repair the tooth with bonding, a filling, or a same-day CEREC crown.
Keep the crown if you have it and call our office to schedule a visit. In the meantime, you can use temporary dental cement from a pharmacy to protect the tooth. Avoid chewing on that side of your mouth and be careful with hot or cold foods if the tooth is sensitive. Our team can often re-cement a crown or place a new restoration quickly.
Most PPO dental insurance plans cover emergency exams and X-rays, along with a portion of the treatment needed to resolve the problem. Coverage depends on your specific plan and the type of treatment. Our Atlanta team will verify your benefits and explain your costs. Smile Club members also receive one emergency exam per year and up to 15% off most treatments.
