A Custom Ceramic Crown in Just One Appointment
Traditional dental crowns usually take two or more visits. You sit through messy impressions, wear a temporary crown for a couple of weeks, and then return to have the permanent crown placed. With same-day crowns, that entire process happens in one appointment.
At New Face Dentistry, our dental team uses CEREC® technology to digitally scan your tooth, design your restoration, and mill a custom ceramic crown right here in our office. You leave with a strong, natural-looking permanent crown the same day, with no temporary and no second visit. For busy professionals, parents, and students from Midtown, Buckhead, Decatur, Brookhaven, and across Atlanta, same-day crowns save time without compromising quality.
Schedule Your CEREC CrownWhen Do You Need a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that covers and protects a damaged tooth, restoring its strength, shape, and appearance. Our dental team may recommend a same-day crown if you have:
- A large cavity that’s too big to repair with a filling
- A cracked or fractured tooth that needs reinforcement to prevent it from breaking further
- A broken or chipped tooth caused by an injury, biting something hard, or teeth grinding
- A worn-down tooth from grinding, clenching, or acid erosion
- A tooth treated with a root canal, especially a back tooth that handles heavy chewing forces
- An old or failing crown or large filling that needs replacement
- A discolored or misshapen tooth that you’d like to restore cosmetically
If you’re experiencing sensitivity when biting, sharp pain when chewing, or visible damage to a tooth, a crown may be the right solution.
How CEREC Technology Works
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It combines three advanced tools in our office: a digital intraoral scanner, computer-aided design (CAD) software, and an in-office milling unit (CAM).
First, the scanner captures a detailed 3D image of your prepared tooth and the teeth around it. Our dental team then uses the CAD software to design a crown that matches your natural tooth anatomy and bite. Finally, the design is sent to our milling unit, which carves your crown from a solid block of durable ceramic with remarkable precision. The entire process takes place chairside while you relax.
Natural-Looking, Metal-Free Ceramic Crowns
CEREC crowns are made from high-strength dental ceramic, a material chosen for its durability and lifelike appearance. Ceramic reflects light much like natural tooth enamel, so your crown blends in beautifully whether it’s on a front tooth or a back molar.
Because CEREC crowns are completely metal-free, there’s no risk of a gray line appearing at the gumline over time. Ceramic is also biocompatible and gentle on gum tissue, making it an excellent choice for patients with metal sensitivities or those who simply prefer a more natural restoration.
Your One-Visit Crown Appointment, Start to Finish
A same-day crown appointment is efficient, comfortable, and surprisingly simple. Most visits take about two hours from start to finish, and you can relax, read, or watch something while your crown is being made. Here’s how it works:
Why Atlanta Patients Choose CEREC Same-Day Crowns

- Metal-free restoration: No dark lines at the gumline and no metal for patients who prefer to avoid it.
- Conservative preparation: Precise digital planning helps preserve more of your healthy tooth structure.
- Less numbing and time off work: One appointment means one round of anesthetic and less time away from your day.

Frequently Asked Questions About Same-Day Crowns
A same-day crown is a custom ceramic dental crown that’s designed, made, and placed in a single appointment. At our Atlanta office, we use CEREC technology to digitally scan your tooth, design the crown on a computer, and mill it from a solid ceramic block while you wait. You leave with your permanent crown the same day. There’s no temporary crown and no need for a second visit.
Most same-day crown appointments take about two hours from start to finish. That includes numbing, preparing the tooth, scanning, designing, milling, and bonding the final crown. While your crown is being milled, you can relax in the chair. Compared to traditional crowns, which typically require two visits spread over a couple of weeks, CEREC saves you significant time.
Same-day crowns are made from high-strength dental ceramic designed to withstand everyday biting and chewing forces. They’re precisely milled from a solid block of material, which gives them consistent strength and a reliable fit. CEREC crowns are suitable for both front and back teeth. With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, they hold up well for many years.
With proper care, CEREC same-day crowns often last 10 to 15 years or longer. Their lifespan depends on factors such as your oral hygiene, chewing habits, and whether you grind or clench your teeth. Brushing, flossing, wearing a night guard if needed, and keeping up with regular dental visits all help your crown last as long as possible.
Getting a crown shouldn’t hurt. Our dental team numbs the tooth and surrounding area with local anesthetic before we begin, so you’ll feel little more than pressure during the procedure. After your appointment, mild sensitivity or gum tenderness may last a day or two. Over-the-counter pain relievers usually take care of any discomfort.
Most teeth that need a crown can be restored with CEREC technology, including molars, premolars, and front teeth. In some situations, such as complex bite issues or certain multi-tooth restorations, our team may recommend a different approach. During your exam, we’ll evaluate your tooth and explain the best option for a strong, long-lasting result.
Yes. CEREC crowns are made from tooth-colored ceramic that’s selected and finished to match the shade of your surrounding teeth. Ceramic also reflects light much like natural enamel, giving your crown a lifelike appearance. Because there’s no metal underneath, you won’t see a dark line at the gumline. Most people can’t tell which tooth has the crown.
Most PPO dental insurance plans provide partial coverage for crowns when they’re needed to restore a damaged or decayed tooth. Coverage is usually the same whether the crown is made in one visit or two. Our Atlanta team will verify your benefits before treatment and explain any out-of-pocket costs. Patients from Midtown, Buckhead, Decatur, Brookhaven, and across Atlanta can also use CareCredit financing or Smile Club savings.
In many cases, yes, especially for back teeth. After a root canal, a tooth can become more brittle and prone to cracking under chewing pressure. A crown covers and protects the tooth, restoring its strength and function. With CEREC, our dental team can often place your crown the same day, so your tooth is fully protected sooner.
